APPEARANCE

Ghost is most often seen in full tactical gear and his iconic skull mask. He is never seen without it, and the skin around his eyes is covered by grease paint. Ghost has a heavy, threatening presence - when he wants to. For such a massive man, he can be rather elusive and light on his feet. He has an obviously bulky, muscular body and moves with surprising grace and absolute confidence.

We have never seen his actual face, but it can be assumed much of Simon's body and face have heavy scarring due to the extensive torture he's gone through. He has a heavily tattooed arm.

PERSONALITY

Ghost is an elusive and emotionally distant man. He doesn't trust easily due to violent betrayals in his past, and when he is inevitably betrayed again, he rarely expresses shock. He understands that the people you trust and the people you love will often be your greatest downfall.

Ghost can come across as intense with a booming voice and an occasionally snarlish personality. But he has his softer moments too, offering comfort and camaraderie in the form of bizarre jokes and vocal reassurances. He is generally a good man who has had a bad life and has done a lot of bad things for "greater good" so to speak. He is, after all, a soldier of a special ops and he has become comfortable with taking the lives of others.

He is an incredibly private man. He keeps his entire appearance heavily hidden at all times and very few people have seen his face. The only people who really know his full name are his direct higher-ups and that information is kept relatively on the downlow. Ghost tries not to be sentimental, but he is only human and can develop deep soft spots for certain people. He will want to help them whether physically or emotionally and can be a loyal friend and a reliable leader.

Simon’s past has been thoroughly scrubbed from the world. What we do know is that Simon was born and raised in Manchester, England to an unnamed father and mother with a younger brother named Tommy. His family endured constant physical and emotional violence and abuse by Simon’s father. Simon’s father was known to torment his children, especially Simon, with dangerous wild animals, such as forcing Simon to “kiss” a venomous snake. His father seemed to delight in tormenting Simon mentally just as much as physically, such as forcing his son to “laugh” at a sex worker who had overdosed and died.

Little else is known beyond his childhood except this violence. Once he was old enough, he was quick to join the military and swiftly moved up to the Special Air Service. He became an exceptional sniper and in doing so, gained quite a lot of enemies. Issues involving his brother turning to addiction and stealing from their mother had Simon abandoning his military duties temporarily to try and take care of his family. During this time, his brother became clean and married a woman named Beth and they had a child named Joseph. This became the most stable point in Simon’s life - so naturally, it had to end in absolute violence.

Simon was pulled back to a military stint where he was taken as a prisoner of war and held captive at a brainwashing facility where he was extensively tortured. This was due to the betrayal of one of Simon’s commanding officers. After months of torture, the CO who betrayed Simon died via torture, and Simon was thrown (alive) into the casket with the corpse of his CO. The two were buried together, but Simon eventually pulled the corpse apart so he could use a jawbone to dig his way up to the surface. There, he would abandon the name “Simon Riley” altogether, being considered KIA, and returned to the world as his infamous callsign: Ghost.

Understandably, Ghost suffered from extensive mental trauma well after healing physically from the torture. This made him volatile to work with, and this only worsened once he discovered that two of his former teammates who had also endured the torture, had wound up betraying Ghost on a deeper level by killing his whole family. This led to a mass killing spree on Ghost’s part where he exacted revenge on the man who had orchestrated all of this brutality in the first place: Roba.

Afterward, most of Simon's history is split between the various Call of Duty video games. I pull him from the most recent being the Modern Warfare II reboot which is pretty different from the original though Simon's backstory remains relatively the same as far as we know.

Ghost is aptly named "Ghost" due to his stealth skills. He specializes in sniping and knives and can clean out an entire building without raising any suspicion.
